Hanalys

Hanalys is a foreign policy debate forum that brings political decision-makers together with researchers, experts, business leaders and analysts. The debate looks at the challenges facing the international community and how Finland and Sweden can help try to tackle them. The forum is organised in cooperation with the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation and the Ministries for Foreign Affairs in Finland and Sweden.

Background

Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Timo Soini and Margot Wallström, founded Hanalys in 2017 with the aim of deepening the Swedish-Finnish foreign and security policy dialogue. The idea was to bring together social debaters, researchers and politicians to debate current security and foreign policy issues. Hanalys was held for the first time at Hanaholmen on 6 September 2017, hosted by Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Timo Soini.

Things happen and are going on all the time in both our countries' security sphere and, although we don't always have the same starting point, we have a lot in common. Therefore, Hanalys and Hanating are excellent forums for open dialogue at a high level. Not only that, the discussion has a ripple effect, as the audience takes the debate out onto a broader front.
