Tandem Leadership
is a cross-sectoral network programme designed for young leaders aged 25-35 from all parts of society in Finland and Sweden.
What is Tandem Leadership?
The programme focuses on cross-sectoral learning between our countries. Participants in the programme meet with experts and leaders from both the private and public sectors as well as civil society and academia and gain insights into many topics, all with a direct or indirect bilateral focus.
Tandem Leadership is not a traditional leadership programme but rather a structured dialogue where participants learn from each other and through discussions with invited speakers. The programme includes both workshops and study visit’s and offers the participants international perspectives, knowledge of each country, new networks and opportunities for cross-border collaborations. An advantage of the programme is the diversity and varied professional background of the participants, which makes the programme unique in its kind. Tandem Leadership is politically and religiously independent.

Great importance is placed on the selection of participants for the Tandem Leadership programme. While a previous commitment to Swedish-Finnish collaboration is not a criterion for selecting participants, you are expected to demonstrate a high commitment to the programme as a whole and recognize the value of Swedish-Finnish collaboration.
The recruitment process begins in the last quarter of the year with a thorough search process. Participants are recruited through four main channels – partnership organizations, alumni recommendations, active search, and through spontaneous applications that can be sent to the project manager. The search process leads to a long list of top candidates, followed by interviews with selected candidates. Those expressing interest in the programme are then presented to a committee from Hanaholmen and the Swedish-Finnish Cultural Foundation, which makes the final decision on who will be offered a place in the programme. The final composition of participants will be publicly announced, including names, titles, and organisations, during the first quarter of the year.
